Funding for Clinical Pharmacists

Warrington Health Plus has been successful in its application to be part of the national three-year pilot to test the role of clinical pharmacists working in general practice.

We have secured funding for 14 pharmacists, funded by NHS England and Warrington CCG.

The ambition for the national pilot is for clinical pharmacists to work as part of the general practice team to improve patient access. This could involve resolving day-to-day medicine issues and consulting with and treating patients directly. Pharmacists could provide extra help to manage long-term conditions, advice for those on multiple medications and better access to health checks.

It is believed that having a clinical pharmacist in GP practices will allow GPs to focus their skills where they are most needed, for example on diagnosing and treating patients with complex conditions. This will help improve access for patients and help GPs manage the demands on their time.

We will soon be recruiting to these new roles.
