Core Hours Service Goes Live!
The first venue for a new service offering more day time GP and nurse appointments went live this month available to patients in the Central West cluster.
Currently operating at Bath Street Health & Wellbeing Center, the additional 'Core Hours appointments' service aims to make more routine triage telephone calls and appointments available to patients on a Monday, Tuesday and Friday.
These extra appointments are in addition to the scheduled appointments already offered by GP Practices. Once the service is live in each of the clusters, it has the potential to create an extra 50,000 appointments a year across the town.
Steve Tilley, Project Manager for the Core Hours service says, “Working together with GP practices, we have an opportunity to improve same day access to GP services for patients who need an appointment sooner than their own GP can offer. This will increase the number of appointments available to patients on a Monday, Tuesday and Friday, usually GP practices' busiest days."
The service is available through the patient's own GP as self-referral is not possible. Patients must also meet some criteria, for example, only acute non-urgent conditions such as colds, coughs, flu, ear, nose & through problems and abdominal pain and vomiting, but patients are urged to ask at their practice for full details.
Phase 1 of the additional Core Hours service started in Central West in May this year and will be rolled out in phases to the remaining 6 clusters starting with Central North in July. This will enable us to test out the service and see if should be continued.
